1) Train for realistic goals
Don't jump into a 10km race. Start with a 5km fun run, and train your butt off weeks before, at least 4-6 weeks prior to the event
2) Invest in gears
Never wear anything new on race day. You may never know how the material reacts on your body.
Dress good & comfortable. It is a confidence booster.
Hijabi girls, dress light. Look for a good dri-fit long sleeve t-shirt, there are surprisingly easy to find in the men's section. No layering. No pins. Preferably no bags too.
3) Carbo-load
Eat mostly carbs and minimize the fibre the night before the race. If not, you will feel like fainting at the 7th kilometre. I am still searching for a good energy drink/ gel pack for longer runs.
I'll be running my first trail run this Sunday, and breaking my personal record of 10km to 12km. Wish me luck!
